We are conducting a survey on the experiences of violence in close relationships among Helsinki residents aged 18 and over. You can respond to the survey anonymously until 9 October 2026. Every response helps us develop services and strengthen support for all those affected by violence and their loved ones.

Special support for customers of family social work

If your family or child is in need of special support, we can offer you family social work services. Family social work services include family work, peer group activities, support person activities, support family activities and temporary care. Your family can receive these services through the needs assessment for child welfare and special support.

Our services

Family work
Family work supports the growth and development of a child, strengthens the child-parent interaction and supports the parents in parenting.
Peer group activities
Guided peer groups support parenting and the child-parent interaction.
Support person activities
Support person activities are intended for children, young people and families whose personal support network is small. The service is available to customers of family social work and child welfare.
Support family activities
Support families are volunteer families who have the time, desire, and ability to support a child and their family. Thanks to this activity, the parents get to rest a while.
Temporary care
Temporary care is a 24-hour, short-term service for children in need of special support or child welfare.
Family work to support school attendance
We help young people who are clients of family social work or child welfare services and who have many absences from school or who have dropped out.
Hehku service
We provide holistic support to young people aged 13-17 and their families when the young person needs support for their moods or wellbeing.
Helmi service
We provide support to families with an immigrant background if their child is in need of multidisciplinary support for reasons such as mental health issues, difficulties with school attendance or acting out through criminal behaviour.
