We are located on the second floor of the main building of the Kontula Senior Centre. Our facilities offer a safe and peaceful environment that supports your recovery.

You can be admitted to a rehabilitation period if it is deemed necessary in a service needs assessment.
If you are already using the City’s senior services (for example home care), please discuss your assessment and rehabilitation needs with your home care staff or your designated worker. If you are not yet registered for senior services, please contact Senior Info. Go to the Senior Info page
We charge a short-term care fee for fixed-term assessment and rehabilitation periods.
Personal documents
- Kela card
- ID card or other form of identification
- Up-to-date medication list
- Taxi card, if you have one
Medicines
- All your regular medicines and any medicines you may need to take, in their original packaging
- Diabetes supplies or other medical supplies, if you use them
Clothing and footwear
- Comfortable indoor and outdoor clothing that can be washed at 40 degrees or higher
- Sturdy indoor and outdoor shoes
- Nightwear
- Enough changes of clothes
Don’t forget to label all your clothes!
Toiletries
- Personal care and hygiene products and protective products
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Shaving equipment
- Comb
- Any skincare products
Assistive equipment
- Glasses, hearing aids and their batteries
- Mobility aids you use on a daily basis (e.g. a walker or walking stick)
Other necessary items
- Home keys
- Phone and charger
- A small amount of cash for travel to and from home visits (and possibly for a pedicure, a barber or a visit to the café)
- You can also bring your own magazines or books, for example.
It is advisable to leave valuables, such as jewellery and expensive electronic devices, as well as your safety wristband, at home.
The duration of the period is tailored to you and depends on your needs.
The Kantola Assessment and Rehabilitation Unit is located at the Kontula Senior Centre. The facilities are cosy, peaceful, and communal.
You can also participate in the senior centre’s activities during the period, such as exercise and cultural activities.
We respect your privacy and your right of self-determination. You can participate in the shared activities according to your resources. You can also rest and spend time on your own when you wish.

- Moving within the facilities is easy.

The facilities support a safe and smooth daily life.
You will have your own room or share a room with someone during the period. All rooms have a bathroom.
The shared facilities include:
- a dining area
- a lounge
- a small library
- a gym with instructions on how to use the equipment
In the shared facilities, you can:
- spend time with others
- participate in joint activities
- meet your loved ones
You will enjoy your meals in the common dining area with the others. We take your meal preferences and your individual needs into consideration. Mealtimes are peaceful and unhurried.
You can spend time outdoors in the garden and the surrounding area according to your resources. Nearby you’ll find:
- parks and recreational trails
- shops and other services in the centre of Kontula
- good public transport connections
Being outdoors and the natural environment support your wellbeing and give meaning to your everyday life.
Your daily rhythm will be constructed according to your needs. Your day might include:
- basic care and support
- moments of rest and time to yourself
- opportunities to participate in joint activities
We organise many kinds of hobby activities and outdoor activities. You can decide for yourself which activities you’d like to participate in. A printed copy of the weekly programme is delivered to your room.
Your loved ones can visit you at their convenience. Visiting us using public transport services is easy, and we also have parking spaces for guests.
The guests can
- spend time with you in your room or in the common areas
- bring snacks and enjoy them with you
- visit the restaurant downstairs with you
The restaurant is open:
- Weekdays at 8.30–15.00
- Weekends at 9.00–14.30

Guests are welcome to bring their pets with them. Please arrange this with the staff in advance.
You can also go out for a walk with your loved ones. Please let the staff know, either in advance or when you leave.
Our multi-disciplinary team supports your everyday life.
- Your appointed nurse pair is responsible for your overall everyday life and is there to support you.
- Practical nurses and nurses ensure your day-to-day care and wellbeing.
- Your doctor is responsible for your medical care.
- A social instructor can help you with matters related to services and your life situation.
- A physiotherapist and an occupational therapist will support your rehabilitation.
