Day activities help you cope with everyday life at home, as well as maintains your functional capacity and your social relationships. Our services are aimed at Helsinki residents living at home who have challenges with their memory or functional capacity. The services also help relatives and informal caregivers to cope.
What do we do during day activities?
The day activities include supervised group activities designed to support your functional capacity. The programme is designed to meet your needs and wishes, as well as those of other clients.
In addition to meals, a day at the day activities may include, for example:
- discussion groups and mental wellbeing groups
- musical moments
- games
- art groups
- light exercise
- outdoor activities
- individual and group exercises led by therapists.
We want the day to be refreshing and safe, and to bring joy to your everyday life.
How long do the day activities last?
People usually attend day activities once a week. A full day lasts around six hours. A half day at the day activities lasts for a maximum of four hours.
How can I get involved in the day activities?
Admission to day activities is based on a service needs assessment. You can apply for day activities by contacting Senior Info. You can find the contact details at the bottom of this page.
If you are already a client of home care or informal care and would like to take part in day activities, please contact your designated worker. First, we’ll work together to assess what kind of support you need. Based on this assessment, your designated worker will decide whether you are eligible for day activities.
If you become a client, we will draw up a service implementation plan together with you and your loved ones. The plan helps us to ensure that you receive the support and activities that are right for you.
Where do the day activities take place?
We organise day activities at our own senior centres and service homes, as well as through outsourced services. Your designated worker will choose a day activity unit that suits you. You can find the City’s day activity units at the bottom of this page.
You can also receive a service voucher, which you can use to access day activities provided by private companies approved by the City. In this case, you choose the day activity unit yourself and pay part of the costs of the day activities to the company that runs them.
You can find companies that provide day activities on the palse.fi website (in Finnish)(Link leads to external service). Select ‘Helsinki Social Services, Health Care and Rescue Services Division’ as the granting party of the service, and ‘service voucher for day activities for the elderly’ as the service.
How much do day activities cost?
The day activities are subject to a fee. A full day at the day activities includes three meal times: breakfast, lunch, and daytime coffee or a snack; or lunch, daytime coffee or a snack, and dinner. A half day at the day activities includes two meal times, one of which is a hot meal.
If necessary, we can arrange group transport to the day activities and back home. In this case, the client fee for the day activities will be higher.
